PALS takes summer trip to interactive museum, ice cream capital
The Clay County PALS traveled to Sioux City on Saturday, June 25, for a fun day of interactive learning and friendship building. The trip was funded by the Walden Family Grant administered to PALS for an educational summer event.
The mentors and mentees traveled in comfort on a bus provided by First Baptist Church in Spencer, arriving in Sioux City in time for lunch at the infamous Milwaukee Weiner House. The historic restaurant was the perfect spot for PALS, as we stuffed ourselves with hot dogs, hamburgers, and classic pop from bottles.
PALS then traveled to the Sioux City LaunchPAD Museum for a day of interactive fun. The kids and adults alike enjoyed two hours of chasing from one exhibit to another, testing their hands at a variety of interactive booths. Many of the adults enjoyed the role playing with the kids, and much laughter abounded. Thereafter, the PALS loaded the bus for LeMars – the ice cream capital of the world – where they stuffed themselves with their favorite flavors of Wells Blue Bunny ice cream.
On the drive home, Harold (the bus driver), stopped somewhere off the beaten path for a surprise Chinese fire drill to provided the kids and adults a chance to stretch and run. This has become a goofy favorite PALS thing to do at some of our events.
The PALS agreed: it was a fun day filled with interactive learning, imagination building and friendship expanding opportunities. Thanks, Walden Family. PALS felt blessed to have been selected a recepient of your goodwill.
