Pals to host ‘Self Care Fun Days on Sundays’

Feb 6, 2020

Hygiene topic of first learning day for mentees

The Clay County PALS will host its first of several planned “Self Care Fun Days on Sundays” on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. The initial session will include an afternoon of discussing good hygiene practices for the mentees. Future sessions will focus on life-long learning skills such as baking, laundry, cleaning and various other topics that are certain to benefit the mentees.

The hygiene ‘fun day’ will be filled with skits, special speakers, learning sessions, and homemade dinner for the PALS and their mentors. Each PAL will also receive a personalized hygiene kit packed full of items for self care. The boys will hear a special ‘locker room’ talk by retired football coach John Stanley of Everly, while the girls receive instruction from female members of the PALS Board.

“We’re pleased to offer these sessions to the kids in our program. It’s fun to have opportunties for the kids to learn while having fun. We’d like to thank VanHofwegen Dental for donating tooth brushes and toothpaste for the dental hygiene portion of the day,” said Susan Christensen, PALS Coordinator. “The remaining hygiene items have been purchased for each child with funds donated by Farmers Trust and Savings Bank in Spencer.”
